AI Market Research Tool for Product Ideas: What to Use

Vettoz · · 6 min read

For a product idea, use ChatGPT or Claude connected to a research tool that reads live evidence: Reddit threads, TikTok and YouTube videos, running Meta ads and competitor prices. The tool collects and scores the evidence the same way every time; your AI writes the report with a link next to every claim. A chat assistant alone answers from memory and tends to agree with you. Deep research modes cite articles but skip the places buyers talk, and trend tools show interest, not payment.

Why does asking ChatGPT “is my idea good” fail?

You describe the idea, and the answer comes back warm: a growing market, a few competitors, some tips. It reads like research. Most of it is a summary of what the model learned in training, shaped by how you framed the question.

Three things go wrong:

  • It answers from memory. It has no view of what buyers posted last week, which ads are running today, or what a competitor charges now.
  • It agrees with you. Ask “is there demand for X” and you get reasons there is. The question leads the answer.
  • It can’t be checked. A paragraph with no links gives you nothing to click when you want to see for yourself.

That doesn’t make the assistant useless. It is very good at the second half of the job: reading evidence and writing a clear report from it. The problem is the first half, collecting the evidence.

What kinds of AI tools exist for product research?

Kind of tool What it does well What it misses for a product idea
Chat assistant alone (ChatGPT, Claude) Brainstorming, structure, writing Live data; it tends to agree with you
Deep research modes Reads many web pages, cites them Buyer conversations, running ads, marketplace prices
Trend and keyword tools Shows rising interest over time Whether anyone pays; why people want it
Idea generators Gives you more ideas Evidence about the idea you already have
Evidence tools connected to your AI Collects threads, videos, ads and prices, then scores them It can’t run your price test for you

A deep research report usually leans on articles, market-size pages and blog posts. Those describe a market from the outside. The buyer’s own words live in Reddit threads and comments, TikTok and YouTube videos and replies, and the ads sellers keep paying for. Those are the sources that answer the questions that matter: is the pain real, is there demand, and do people pay.

The guide to idea validation tools sorts the free sources by the question each one answers, if you want to do the collection by hand.

What should an AI market research tool give you?

Before you pick a tool, decide what the output has to contain. For a product idea, a useful report has:

  1. A verdict with its reasons. Go, test or rethink, and the weakest point.
  2. Buyer quotes with links. Their words, so you can read the thread yourself. Finding pain points on Reddit shows what a strong quote looks like.
  3. Competitors with prices. What exists, what it costs and what buyers complain about. See how to find competitors for a product idea.
  4. Paid demand. Active ads, and how long they have run. The Facebook Ad Library guide explains why run length matters.
  5. A price to test, anchored on a real competitor. How to price a new product covers the method.
  6. The next test, so you prove demand with buyers before you build everything.

If a tool can’t show you most of this with links, it is giving you an opinion, not research.

What does evidence-based AI research look like?

Here is one example check Vettoz ran on October 18, 2026, for an undated paper planner for adults with ADHD, sold as a physical product in the US. These are the numbers that check found that day, not a forecast:

  • 15 Reddit threads with 561 comments between them, mostly in ADHD and productivity subreddits.
  • 960 active ads in the Meta Ad Library for “adhd planner”, 12 of the ads read had run for 30 days or more.
  • 10 priced competitors from $2.20 to $63, with a median of $11.49.
  • The top TikTok Shop listing sold at $18.19, with about 178,000 units sold.

The idea scored 86 out of 100, a “go”. Its weakest point was room: the market is busy, so the product needs a clear angle. A team hydration-reminder SaaS checked the same day scored 46, a “rethink”, because most of what it found was about electrolyte drinks, not software.

A chat answer would likely have called both ideas promising. The evidence told them apart.

How do you run market research for a product idea with AI?

  1. Write the idea in one sentence: what it is, who buys it, what it solves.
  2. Pick 3 to 6 phrases a buyer would type. Use the problem, not your product’s name.
  3. Collect the evidence from the places buyers talk and pay: Reddit, X, TikTok, YouTube, the Meta Ad Library, and the marketplace for your kind of product.
  4. Score it the same way every time, so you can compare ideas instead of judging each one in a different mood.
  5. Let your AI write the report from that evidence, with links next to every claim.
  6. Run one cheap test before you build: a pre-order page, a pre-sale or a small ad.

Steps 3 and 4 are where a tool saves hours. Steps 1, 2 and 6 stay yours. For more on step 6, see how to validate a business idea before building.

FAQ

Can ChatGPT do market research for a product idea?
On its own it summarizes what it already knows. Connected to a tool that reads live evidence, it can write a real report with links. Validating a business idea with ChatGPT shows the setup.

Is deep research enough?
It helps with the market’s background. It rarely reads buyer comments, running ads or marketplace prices, which are the signals that show people pay.

Are free tools enough?
Yes, if you have a few hours per idea. A tool earns its place when you check ideas often or want scores you can compare.

Does a high score mean the product will sell?
No. It means the market already shows pain, demand and payment. Only a test with real buyers shows they pay you.

Research your idea with Vettoz

Vettoz is an AI market research tool that runs inside Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. For one idea he reads Reddit threads and comments, X posts, TikTok and YouTube videos, active Meta ads, Google, and TikTok Shop or the App Store depending on the kind of product. He scores pain, demand, pay, room and reach from 0 to 100, with a GO, TEST or RETHINK verdict, and your AI writes the report with every source linked.

Your first 2 checks are free, no card. When an idea holds up, a full idea adds Branding (names with free domains, a palette, a logo and a brand board) and Marketing (an Instagram carousel, a post and three Meta ads in your brand). Packs of 1, 4 or 15 ideas are one-time payments, with no subscription, and ideas never expire. Your next step: create a free account, connect Vettoz to your AI, and type “check this idea with Vettoz” with your idea in one sentence. You can also see how it works or compare the packs first.
